Hi, in my timezone it's still March 31st, so I'll attempt to
publish this before people start looking for jokes.

I've been playing with console fonts (I really dislike LatArCyrHeb
- the arabic and hebrew is wasted on me, it doesn't have a euro (€),
it doesn't have greek, and generally too much is missing). About a
week ago I came across Dmitry Bolkovityanov's uni-vga. The map files
(.sfm) that he supplies seem targetted at a Russian audience, but his
bdf font seems to contain all the likely latin, cyrillic, and modern
greek characters.

Since then I've found a patch to correct some errors (if I could
understand ukrainian, I could probably have downloaded it as plain
text, but I ended up copying it from my browser ;-), and I've created
a 256-character font 'Anglicised1' with many current european letters
(and many more stripped of their accents). I've also produced a
512-character font 'European1' which hopes to display all current
European languages in a console - it's probably buggy, but I'll take
patches ;)

This is all in http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~ken/fonts/ - the
list of what is there, and how to use it, is in 'Contents' (for some
reason it didn't show in my browser when it was called README). For
the moment, anybody wanting to use this will need to apply patches
to uni-vga (hey, we're LFS, you wouldn't want a pre-built font would
you ?) - I have a required patch to fix build issues, separate
patches for the two map files, and patches to alter the glyphs for ы
(cyrillic small yeri - I found it hard to read in some combinations)
and Ľ and ľ (L and l with caron - changed to an apostrophe).

There is also a copy of fedora's kbd-latsun-fonts tarball, for
those who would like to try the latarcyrheb-sun16 font (does have a
euro, but no greek), instructions for using the original 'man' with
'groff-utf8' in LFS to handle UTF-8 fonts, and some stuff for CLFS
which at the moment is only alpha quality (I've got a showstopper on
pure64 x86_64 which is causing some glyphs to be trashed - I guess
that's quite ironic, since I started out as a pure64 believer).

Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'd appreciate comments (off-list)
about whether European1 works for you, and any bug reports. Share
and Enjoy!
