LFS 7.0 - win7->Oracle VirtualBox->Slackware 13 32bit host I've gone through the book verbatim less Perl Install.
I managed t o get Grub to boot the LFS partition with tweaking the default grub.cfg script only for the partition number: sda11. I get an error during the kernel boot at about 4letter designations - as if sad1 possibly is better than sda11. I'm not sure. But setting the Grub to boot sda11 (my lfs drive) DOES cause the kernel to begin booting but I get some pretty hideous errors before the the system just halts. I've make some screen shots available to help... they are here: ftp://archives/os/linux/linuxfromsratch/lfs/ Various *.png shots. (not fastest bandwidth - on dated 32bit Cent OS FTP server) Numbers of pictures Might not be in exact order but close..it was hard to catch the screens as they scroll up quickly) One error was alarming: You should not be reading this error message. It makes me wonder if I should start the book from scratch but this time making my own scripts to make the process faster for me. I saw ALFS and JALFS tools but think that might be more advanced than I need: just write scripts and number them and do and so things in major passes. I'm determined to make my Own OS distribution with built in PLUGS and special recognition for the LinuxFromScratch project as I really like the idea of a group promoting "making your own and think you all should get credit, and I'm only looking for credit where I can add my own code and tools to and packages, repository system to help folks how I can with my own programming abilities and contributions as a whole. I guess I'm wondering if these screens show a complete failure on my part or show I'm PRETTY CLOSE to makeing this work. Previously I got Kernel Panic about mounting the virtual fs I assume in the RAM one used during startup. Regardless - if I posted this info poorly, I apologize. While I am waiting for feedback, I will begin a brandnew roll in a new Virtual OS under slackware13 again and try to keep all the scripts to automate the book so I can run chunks of it at a time and have a record of what I did so I can go back and verify accuracy. In Short - I have a lot of faith in the team that put this book together and I'm determined to nail it as I want to move on to the next books and start tailoring a custom "distro" based on the tool suites I think are quite useful. Thank you if you took the time to read this long message. Thank You Jaosn P Sage - Frustrated but determined! :) -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
