Usually, I would suggest you changed something on the host system.
If you only ran, as root, commands which the book tells you to run
as root then I doubt anything broke it.

However, it can be easy to fill up a filesystem.  As root on your
tumbleweed use 'df' to check what is mounted and how much space is
available - you should be fine for space, but if e.g. /home is full
then a user will not be able to login.

After that, you'll need to look at the logs (I suppose you use
journalctl for that, but I avoid systemd).
