MXF is the wrapper around the video and sound essence contained within it, much like a .mov file or an flv file contain ProRes or h264 video. Also, the P2 cameras have a strange video format themselves that I think is difficult to work with, I've heard that there are a lot of compatibility problems with the video and it often has to go through a lot of conversion before it can be used with editing tools like AVID media composer or FinalCut. I've currently working on code that takes a live stream of video and encodes it using DNX (smpte VC-3) and then wraps the DNX as an MXF. The code I'm using to create the MXF comes from the BBC and has the very original name of libMXF. This is not working software but a software library for developers to use, however, if you are a programmer I'm sure you'd quickly get to grips with it. It can be found here: http://ingex.sourceforge.net/libMXF/ Another link that lists MXF compatible software (Mac only though) is: http://mxf4mac.com/compatibility I hope this helps.
