JEFFERSON CITY - A new federal law may mean longer waits at the DMV for
those wanting to renew their licenses.

The Real ID Act was passed by Congress 3 years ago to establish minimum
standards for state-issued ID cards, like drivers licenses.

Under the law, states would have to link their record-keeping systems to
a national standard. Every state was supposed to be on board by May, but no
state has met that deadline yet. On Friday, it was announced that Missouri will
recieve $17 million of federal funding as part of a "test state" program

Critics say the law gives the government too much access to private
information.

The Department of Homeland Security will allow states to use 20 percent
of federal funding to comply with the new law.

Anarchy doesn't mean no rules, it means no rulers.

Thomas Jefferson justified tolerance for civic disorder and rebellion by
referring to a Latin maxim,
Mao periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem.
("Rather a dangerous liberty than a peaceful servitude.")
