I agree.

Also, in my experience, each downvote in MusicBrainz is usually 
accompanied by a note explaining why the edit is perceived to be 
lacking. Usually (but not always) there actually is a problem with my 
edit if this happens.

This is hardly the place for a broader discussion of the intelligence 
level of the MusicBrainz community, but FWIW in my experience it's 
filled with people who are as anal or even more so, about having correct 
tags as I am. Also there are very specific rules about what to accept 
and what to reject. In general your edits should be accompanied by some 
sort of proof if they are anything more than trivial.
