Cloph, do you think this request should be closed as "won't fix"?
I wouldn't support adding an option to let users _always_ be on an unsupported
version. (That's how I understand the summary.)
If the request is "only offer update to newer branch when it becomes the new
still branch", that's already what we (try to automatically) do.
