I am a volunteer, a simple user, not a developer.

As for the current behavior being a bug, you consider it to be a bug. Others
might think of it an acceptable behavior, especially considering the
alternatives (such as the formula I proposed in comment 24). The "middle
ground" would be to consider the current behavior to have potential for
improvements (but perhaps also with the potential of introducing important
drawbacks in case of some mistake or some case not being considered in the
code).

BTW, have you actually tested LO 3.3 with this case? Or perhaps it was OOo 3.x
and not LO? Have you tested any other spreadsheet tool with this case?

As for the positive effects of improving the current behavior, I am aware of
them (as you mentioned, compactness, especially in Forms).

I just expressed my personal opinion based on my personal experience. That does
not mean that this report should be closed. OTOH, it is still relevant to
actually test LO 3.3 (or at least LO 3.5), as this bug is currently reported as
a regression (with the Version field set on LO 3.5, which I don't have ATM).
