The current string dates back to OOo 3.0, when the feature was first added. The
LO source code calls this feature "square*d* page mode", apparently after the
British name for graph paper. I'm not sure what process led to that becoming
"square page mode" in the GUI, but it seems like a long-standing typo or
mistranslation.

Bit of trivia: the OOo 3.0 beta Japanese string was 「文字グリッド線に正方形ページモードを使用する」,
which has the same ambiguity. That one was fixed for the 3.0 release, but the
English string wasn't.

Manuscript paper/draft paper is a literal translation of the Japanese and
Taiwanese Mandarin terms, which doesn't seem unreasonable. We could also
consider something more descriptive, like "Square-ruled mode for Asian text
grid".
