--- Comment #10 from [email protected] --- This is fun I think you are kind of proving my point, that when I ask you about why there are existing shortcuts for other actions and you cannot answer my question. As I mentioned it seems like you are waiting for me to waste even more time in typing a list of benefits begging for a simple suggestion and you are going to disagree no matter what I mention, correct? but I will play along First, just as an exercise for anyone interested Open "Customize" window and click on "Keyboard", then type the keyboard "sheet" into the search field. Look at the amount of functions offered You are asking what is the use case that someone would want to be able to move sheets using shortcuts. It is to be able to move sheets using shortcuts. Very similar to why would someone want to use shortcuts to select previous/next sheets? By your question, they can just use the mouse with CTRL and SHIFT and get more functionality with it. and can keep going.... Why would someone need to have a shortcut to rename a tab, when they can just double click on it? Why would someone need to cycle through existing sheets using shortcuts when they can simply just click on the sheet they want to view? Why would someone need to duplicate a sheet with a shortcut when they can just use the tabs context menu? There is a shorcut to "Hide Sheets", how often do users hide sheets from view? There is even a function to allow user to use a shortcut to change the view of tabs to be right justified "Sheet Right-To-Left" If a user uses the "Select" based shortcuts I mention, what is purpose of being able to do this. It can only select in sequence left or right, cannot skip sheers in between. User can what, delete this group of selected sheets, or duplicate this group, how common is this? Are all of these actions not "redundant" / needed to have shortcut keys for them? If this is such a concern of yours then why are so many sheet based shortcuts available? If they can all already be achieved using mouse, context menus, dialogs, etc. SOME POSSIBLE BENEFITS -Allows user the ability to move sheets left or right using shortcut keys. -LibreOffice offers many ways to do many of the same actions, it is one of the things that make a program great and usable for many different users. Users get to choose how they want to use the program to fit their needs, not the specific needs of others. -Calc can be primarily used, using only keyboard. Some users prefer an as much keyboard use as possible, not wanting to use mouse. -If all other sheet based actions can be done using shortcuts, this allows user to setup and perform all these actions using keyboard, but then because of an opinion/argument then one action "move" is not available. -Keyboard shortcuts can allow small precision based actions to be performed with greater ease and accuracy. -Holding down LMB to move a little tab in between other little tabs can be difficult for some. Sometimes a tab needs to be moved beyond screen edge (if there are more then screen width can view). User has to continue to hold down the LMB and wait for the autoscroll to occur. -Accessibility, maybe user would not want to use little dialogs to perform actions that they can just perform using a simple shortcut to do so. -As mentioned, currently there is the ability to "Select" using keyboard shortcuts, adding the ability to "Move" these selected tabs would give more purpose/functionality to those "Select" based actions Most users are not using every single option/feature available, so to many users a lot of features could be considered to be not needed/important. Does only one developer get to decide, based on just an opinion? I am sure this was worth it Thank you to anyone who reads this Note: If anyone is interested, the following post I made is similar to this one 169449 (do not want to link) Which I just realized was marked resolved even though it seems like my post was not even read, preventing possible developers from seeing it, which is great. Again there are so many existing sheet based actions and yet some basic "Insert Sheet" based functions/shortcuts are not available without the use of a big clunky dialog box. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
