Bug ID: 172486
Summary: It is not possible to edit notes and slides
simultaneously in Impress
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 3.3.0 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
In Impress, editing slide content and speaker notes at the same time is not
possible within a single workspace. To edit notes, the user must switch to the
Notes view, which prevents direct editing of the slide content. This makes
workflows that require simultaneous editing of slides and notes less efficient.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a new presentation with two slides.
2.Add speaker notes to both slides.
3.Switch to Normal view.
4.Edit the content of one of the slides.
5.Attempt to edit the slide's speaker notes while continuing to modify the
slide content.
Actual Results:
The speaker notes cannot be edited simultaneously with the slide content in
Normal view. The user must switch to Notes view, interrupting the editing
workflow.
Expected Results:
The speaker notes should be accessible and editable directly from Normal view,
for example through an expandable notes panel below the slide, allowing
simultaneous editing of both slide content and notes.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
Version: 26.2.3.2 (X86_64)

CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 6.11; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: es-ES (es_ES.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
A possible workaround is to use Window → New Window to open the same
presentation in a second window. One window can be kept in Normal view while
the other is switched to Notes view, allowing the slide content and notes to be
edited side by side.
However, this workaround has an important limitation: the two windows are not
synchronized. When the user changes to another slide in one window, the second
window remains on the previous slide. As a result, both windows must be
navigated independently.
To improve this workflow, it would be useful to provide an option to link
multiple windows displaying the same document. Linked windows would
automatically stay synchronized, so changing slides in one window would cause
the other linked windows to switch to the same slide as well.
