            Bug ID: 172730
Summary: Performance issue: Large PPTX (~85 MB) requires 50-60
minutes for PDF export in LibreOffice compared to 10
                    minutes in Microsoft PowerPoint
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.2.4.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Impress
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Issue Description:
A large PowerPoint presentation (~85 MB PPTX) can be opened and converted
successfully using Microsoft PowerPoint. However, when the same file is
processed using LibreOffice Impress, both document loading and PDF export
operations are significantly slower.

Observed behavior:
PPTX size: approximately 85 MB
File loading time: 2–3 minutes
PPTX to PDF conversion(both in Windows and Linux): approximately 50-60 minutes

Microsoft Office (Windows):
PPTX to PDF conversion: approximately 10-12 minutes

The behavior is reproducible across both Windows and Linux environments, which
may indicate a performance issue related to PPTX import, slide rendering, image
processing, memory utilization, or PDF export functionality within LibreOffice
Impress.

This issue has a significant impact on production workflows and
document-conversion scalability. While there are existing reports related to
memory consumption and performance when handling large presentations, this
report specifically highlights the combination of prolonged PDF conversion
times and high resource utilization encountered with an 85 MB PPTX file.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start LibreOffice Impress.
2.Open the attached PPTX file (~85 MB).
3.Wait for the presentation to finish loading.
4.Select:
File → Export As → Export as PDF
5.Start PDF export.
6.Measure the elapsed time until PDF generation completes.
7.Perform the same operation using Microsoft PowerPoint for comparison.

Actual Results:
*LibreOffice Windows:
*PPTX loading time: approximately 2–3 minutes.
*PPTX to PDF conversion time: approximately 60 minutes.
*LibreOffice Linux:
*PPTX to PDF conversion time: approximately 60 minutes.
*Additional Observations
*PDF conversion takes approximately 5–6 times longer than Microsoft
PowerPoint.
*The behavior is consistently reproducible across multiple operating
systems.
*Resource utilization, particularly memory consumption, appears
significantly higher when processing large presentations.
*The current performance makes processing large PPTX files challenging for
production and enterprise use cases.

Expected Results:
*Large PPTX files should open and render efficiently in LibreOffice Impress.
*PDF export performance should be optimized for large presentations.
*Conversion times should be reasonably comparable to those observed in
Microsoft PowerPoint.
*LibreOffice should handle large presentations without excessive processing
time or abnormal resource consumption.
*Large PPTX files should be suitable for enterprise-scale document
conversion and automated workflows.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No
