What happens:
When I resize the Writer window, or use Windows "Snap" to put it on
one side of the screen, parts of the toolbar and style gallery turn
into solid black boxes. The icons and text under the black boxes do
not show. This does not fix itself when I click around or switch
tabs - the black boxes stay until I restart LibreOffice.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Writer
2. Snap the window to the left or right side of the screen (Windows
key + Left arrow, or Windows key + Right arrow)
3. Click between different ribbon tabs (Home, Insert, Layout, etc.)
4. Some toolbar icons and the style preview area turn black
What I expected:
The toolbar and style previews should always show normally, even
after resizing or snapping the window.
What I tried (none of these fixed it):
- Full clean reinstall (uninstalled, deleted %APPDATA%\LibreOffice
and %LOCALAPPDATA%\LibreOffice, deleted leftover registry keys,
fresh install)
- Tried on LibreOffice 26.8.0 - same problem
- Tried on LibreOffice 26.2.5 - same problem
- Unchecking "Use Skia for all rendering" in Tools > Options - the
checkbox is greyed out and stays checked
- Checking "Force Skia software rendering" - did not fix it
- Using Help > Restart in Troubleshoot Mode > Disable hardware
acceleration - did not fix it
- Updated my AMD graphics driver to the latest version
(Adrenalin 26.5.2) - did not fix it
My hardware (laptop):
- AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics (integrated GPU)
- Windows
- skia.log shows: RenderMethod: vulkan, Vendor: 0x1002,
Device: 0x164c, DeviceType: integrated, Denylisted: no
I also tested this on a second computer (a desktop with a basic
Intel integrated GPU, not AMD) and saw the exact same black box
problem there too. So this does not seem to be only an AMD issue -
it may affect integrated graphics in general.
I have a screen recording showing the bug happening, which I can
attach.
