You're right, LO isn't broken, but something else is.
I inherited the most recent documents as (trivial) MS Word docs, and they seem
to have some very very crazy behaviour, which I had (wrongly) put down to LO
having started to do something really odd.
I'll produce some test cases on this, to see if we can track this down.
