Yes, but those full dates (31.08.12) didn't work in 3.6, that's why I'm
reporting it here.

Who complained? Where?
I have a feeling that 0,5% of 10.000.000 user base complained and now other
99,5% will suffer.
Are there any examples of numbers using - or / which can be mistaken for dates?
I can only think of one, invoice numbers which usually looks something like:
1234/12
1234/2012
1234-5678-12
...
