> for hardware which designs are free and it's > components are not vs. using "Free Hardware" for hardware which designs, > schematics, gerber files, When I say "the designs are free", it means any and all levels of designs. Aren't schematics one level of design? Aren't gerber files another level of design? I think they are -- so "free-design" would include schematics and gerber files. Are you using "designs" with a different meaning? firmware, microcode and used components are > free/libre. What does "used components" mean? If it means the chips, "free-design" includes the chips' designs too. > I like the term, but i would argue about clarifying that Free is not > Gratis as using "free" as i fear that the word "Free" is used too often > in the hardware marketing for people who are not familiar with the > subject to think of socialism instead of liberalism. -> Yes, that is true. > "free/libre-design hardware" or "libre-design hardware" ? Those are both good terms to use. -- Dr Richard Stallman (https://stallman.org) Chief GNUisance of the GNU Project (https://gnu.org) Founder, Free Software Foundation (https://fsf.org) Internet Hall-of-Famer (https://internethalloffame.org) _______________________________________________ libreplanet-discuss mailing list libreplanet-discuss@libreplanet.org https://lists.libreplanet.org/mailman/listinfo/libreplanet-discuss
