Totally agree, and I urge people to just say NO to such devices, if we can get
enough people to do so, perhaps it will force manufacturers to go back to
devices we control... (and that don't add the phone when not needed...)

My pet peeve, also bed related. I've been sleeping on a Select Comfort
mattress for years, and really like it. It has a corded control - always
within reach, always charged, can't get lost, reliable, etc. But the mattress
is definitely showing it's age, and I'd love to replace it... But Select
Comfort no longer offers anything but mattresses controlled by a zombie-phone
app, complete w/ surveillance, and a monthly fee... Why I need to clutter a
phone with an app to remotely control a device that I'd only ever want to
adjust when in it I've yet to figure out.

I went into the store and confirmed this, my response was to tell them that I
hoped they found a good 'comfort number' when they forcibly put their app
controlled mattress in a place that doesn't get any sunshine...
