Hi Fred,
The Yamaha chip in the Lib (50 at least and I assume the others) emulates
sound blaster in 8bit mode only, but with the supplied drivers it works fine
in 16 bit stereo mode. I play MP2 all the time, no problems...
I also have stashed away somewhere a *12* bit pcmcia card, which I've never
used, and I have done some testing for work on 16 bit cards (for our
reporters) which at the time (a couple of years back) I found to be
uniformly noisy and prone to distortion. Things have probably changed since
then but as all(?) laptop makers now include multimedia on the motherboard
I'd be surprised if they've changed much...
