Ah, unqualified admiration! I need all of that I can get!

(ahem) I've got *one* machine working after this fault...but I had a go at 
the other one last night with no success...so that one is now officially for 
spares now :( First attempt will be to salvage the memory extension socket, 
when I have a couple of hours with a steady hand and a loupe...
