I happened to use such an adpater last night - guess I was lucky to have gotten it right becos, like you said, it didn't come with instructions! Anyhow, the result is - I made a successful upgrade and now have a MK0803MAT drive to spare. It came from my Toshiba Libretto and works great. Would let u have it for $20 + actual shipping if you still need it.
