I've been thinking about the whole challenge about brightening up the LCD. Making all three of the modifications mentioned (that I can remember) I would think would help significantly: 1. Brighter florescent bulbs (bulbs?)... if one of your clever guys can figure out how to do that. Seems the company I contacted (lost the email) managed to do that somehow. 2. Silvered backing. Neil... I'm thinking that if the light generated by the LCD that is being lost going out the back side, is turned around and sent back through to the front, the light output should increase to some degree. Though I don't know the physics of the inside of the LCD, and whether or not reflected light will make it back through whatever is in there. 3. The filter on the outside face of the LCD. It finally dawned on me what the purpose of this might be. Maybe it's been discussed in the past, but I saw no mention of it in recent posts. I read about these filters as 'privacy' filters, limiting the view of the screen from the side. But in this case, I guessing what's going on is that the bright sunlight is blocked from hitting the screen in a wide angle from the sides, limiting it reaching the screen, and thus allowing the emitted light not to be too overwhelmed. Does that make any sense. I should search the archives. Someone replied to a post of mine last year, or early this years saying he'd had the modifications done and was very pleased with the results.
