I had the same problem on an old Compaq LTE Lite/25 (a 386 with a NiMH pack) ... battery was fine, accidentally ran it right down and it never detected the pack again. The scary thing is it never detected ANY pack again. The motherboard blew a month or so later (unrelated - I have a habit of soldering my projects straight to the motherboards of old computers ;-) so that solved THAT problem for me ... Obviously you have no idea of how a Li-ion battery dies.
