Are there any apps in >particular to laud/avoid? > can't help you with the voice recognition software though I believe I've seen mention of Via-voice from IBM as working quite well - dunno how much horsepower it needs though, and you'll have the teeny-tiny bijou problemette of getting a mic input into the lib... Configuring X is a doddle - works out of the box on 3.3.6 using the svga drivers for chips&technology 65550. I've posted my config in the past - should be in the archives - and personally prefer a virtual 800*600 with 16 bit colour, as many of the apps don't fit in a 640*480 window. Of course, there are others here - Christian or Paul for example - who are far better versed in the intricacies of *nix than I.
