Well the only thing that'll deteriorate is the backlight but then you've got to ask 
yourself whats more damaging ... keeping the backlight on or turning it on and off 
several times per hour. I've got backlights on old laptops 10 years old or more that 
are still going strong ... I wouldn't worry too much about it, short of mechanical 
damage it'd be hard to get that thing to fall over.
