Big deal. It CAN be accessed, and it CAN'T be accessed it a reliable,
workable, practical, useful manner.

Where's the logic in that question?

This list carries endless proof that it requires a great deal of debate,
questions, answers, uploads, downloads, installs, tests, alternatives,
versions, whatever. We must have different understandings of the phrase
"extra effort".

In the scenario proposed, the overlay strategy requires additional
software - the hardware and software compatibility issues of which have
been, and continue to be, the subject of considerable discussion on this
list - in order to access the entire drive; the potential alternative would
require some simple way of restricting access by Win'95/98 to the first 8GB.

How could it possibly go pear shaped with equal ease either way?

They can both access the portion below the 8GB limit - what is so strange?
