Most of the recent CD players have had their MAX output levels cut way down
due to the possibility of hearing damage and resulting law suits. This is why
the earlier Sony Discmans could really pump out LOUD music, then the later ones
threw in auto-level switches, then the recent CD players simply can't even make
a room shake (or make a headphone be heard from dozens of feet away anymore).

as noted earlier, any headphone out level requires, usually, an amp to boost
it up to line level.

The ff1100v has been selling on Yahoo Auction Japan for <$250 recently, so as
long as I can find a used computer store that still has them, they should go
dirt-cheap. I was thinking of perhaps buying up a mid-line to replace the
Libretto as well, like the Sony TR series, the Fujitsu T70 series, etc, but
don't know about that yet -- if I was gonna bump the size way up so that it
wasn't a small hardback book in size, why not go all the way and get a 'real'
fuller sized notebook? Sure aren't gonna fit into a large pocket anyways...

But we'll see -- I think Akihabara may either be a total disappointment in
that everything's more expensive than ordering through www.conics.net through
Yahoo Auctions Japan, or I'll find myself spending days figuring out which
bargains to drag home =)

As I recall there was a web page that had some instructions for installing
English OS with the Japanese drivers, and the camera simply didn't work then
but everything else did on the ff1100v. So you could get it to run, but not
all of the features would work....
