Does anyone have working autoexec.bat and config.sys files on a boot floppy that enables the CD-ROM drive in DOS for this Sony VAIO PCG-505F notebook? (See below) I'd like to have a look at them.

You may also need to NOT power the drive (with the external AC adapter), to get it in 16 bit mode. Also you may need to change the BIOS to reflect the boot priority, e.g. you want to boot from the CD and not the hard drive or floppy. By default I believe the CD is the last option, and will only boot when their is no floppy, and the Hard drive has no OS or has failed.

I have used the Sony CD-ROM (PCGA-CD50/51/51A) and DVD ROMs to load the OS. They have worked well for me in the past, on Sony Picture books.

Hmm... You have had Picture Books... not VAIO PCG-505F, right David?

Does anyone else have a PCG-505F? Carval has sent me a driver package that is supposed to get a Sony PCGA-CD51 CD-ROM working in DOS. But this system complains that it can't find the correct drivers for enabling CD-ROM support.

Carval has a PCGA-CD51 CD-ROM drive. The model I'm working with doesn't have that final 1 in the model name. This model is: PCGA-CD51 I don't know if that may be the problem.

But working autoexec.bat and config.sys files may point me to the correct driver files.

Thx

Matt
