W-a-a-a-a-a. I spoke too soon. It going past the
message that one time must have been a fluke. Because
when I left it off for more than 24 hours, the message
was back.
So late last night (Sat) I got out my trusty
instructions, tools, sandpapered my fingers (just
kidding) and swapped out the RTC battery. I have a
brand new respect for the manufacturing process of
these little machines! And a ton of notes added to the
printed instructions.
Actually, when one figures out how to use two tiny
screwdrivers - one to each side of the little white
wiring connectors, it's pretty easy removing them from
the mb. And why don't they tell you that there are two
thingys - one on each side of the keyboard cable that
need to be pushed toward the display side as far as
they can go and then the cable will slip right out??
I just wish I'd had Mikkel's advice for the case
popper. [Is that like a corn popper? :-)] I used my
fingers inside the battery compartment to start the
right side opening, then moved around the case and it
came right off.
Was kind of nervous booting it up when finished. But
it gave me that message again, and then went right
into the desktop after dealing with the message. So I
guess I didn't get any extraneous material in the
memory, and did everything properly.
It's still being charged right now. And I found a
paper on Toshiba's site stating what Perry said, that
the machine must be booted up and running in order for
the RTC battery to charge: can't just plug it in and
leave it.
I should know tomorrow morning if everything is as it
should be. Whew! what an experience. It would drive me
up the wall to work on these puppies all day long.
