Subject: AW: [LIB] Battery upgrades (again!)

Hi Nick!

I have done such an upgrade of an old lib 110 battery pack. Unfortunately I
can't remember the exact type number for the Panasonic cells I used, but
they should have a slightly higher capacity than the original! See my post
from May, 10th 2005, which I repeat here:

Although it was a success and I have a working battery now, I wouldn't
repeat it!

According to my experiences it is impossible to open a battery pack without
visible scratches or cracks. I also tried to take 2 dead packs, where I
cutted off upper part on one and the lower part on the other - to work out
the other half unbroken. This gave better results, but is also not perfect.
The packs are designed and glued in a way that it makes impossible to
separate the two halves without signes!

The other thing are the welded contacts. Without a special welding
equipement (which I do not have) the only way is to solder the contacts with
wires. I tried to use thin (but not too thin!) wires, I grinded it flat, but
the batterys need still 1 mm more space inside - and this space is not
available. I tried to grind away some plastic, but there is not much.... So
on the left and right side the renewed pack is still a litle bit bulgy.

And the new pack seem to have less capacity as a hi-capacity pack in good
condition. Also the rebuilt pack looses charging faster than the original if
it is unused for a while!

So my conclusion is: not recommendable. :-(((

regards
Gerhard
