Now the next steps are to research the specs for solar panels
(voltage/current/light-diagrams) and to search for a 15V stabilizer which
operates lower input-voltage. Perhaps it is worth to look to the original
12V-Adapter. - My first idea was to avoid this extra piece... :-((

I use a 12 volt card adapter, extra cell and a folding solar panel. this is the setup I used before the gps had maps. http://www.billcotton.com/tripmate.htm My latest trip usind a solar panel is here. http://www.billcotton.com/quest_on_bicycle.htm

They do have electronic power supplies that run off what? charge-pump theory, that will boost a lower voltage source to a fixed voltage source you want. I
think one of the most common usages is in LED flashlights. A battery
fluctuates over time, and the voltage is often lower than needed to power a LED, so these converters boost the voltage to a higher one and allow you to
power the device just fine off lower voltage batteries.

My Luxeon 5 watt light use a unit called a power puck to do this http://www.billcotton.com/luxeon_light_bar_and_gps_mount.htm

In any case, I'm sure a quick search will do it....

One idea is to see if there are any car chargers out there that can power the
Libretto(I think there are - search Mailing List archives). Then, you can
easily start with a lower input voltage, and rely on the charger to boost the power to something the Libretto can use. but the problem here is to see if the charger can handle a wide input voltage fluctuation, or if what you really need
is another power supply converter....

Of course, the other idea would be to simply see if there's a way to expand the battery pack out front by another set of cells -- then, you can run up to
6-8 hours on a single charge.....
