David, I was looking at the following new devices not mentioned in your
list below:
KOHJINSH (Shown on Conics.net site):
8.6"x6.4"x1"
2.11 Lbs
40G or 80G hard drive
7" display (not touch screen)
512M or 1G RAM
WIN XP
500 MHz AMD Geode LX800 processor
~$800

FLYBOOK (check Google for site):
9.25"x6.1"x1.22"
2.7 Lbs
40 G, 80G, or 100G hard drive
8.9" display (It is touch screen)
512M, 1G, or 2G RAM
WIN XP or Vista
1.1 MHz Intel Pentium M
High priced (~$2500) Has built in everything (except CD/DDVD)

FLIPSTART (http://www.flipstart.com/pdf/datasheet.pdf):
5.9"x4.5"x1.35"
1.5 Lbs
30G hard drive
5.6" display (It is touch screen) Also has 1.8" external display)
512M RAM
WIN XP or Vista
1.1 MHZ Intel Pentium M
Also has camera built in.
~$2000

For comparison, LIBRETTO L100/110:
8.3"x5.2"x1.4"
2.4 Lbs
2.1G hard drive
7.1" display (not touch screen)
64M RAM
WIN2K or lower
233 MHz Intel processor

The KOHJINSH looks like a reasonable replacement for the Libretto, but I
have never heard of them and the Keyboard is only in Japanese.
The FLIPSTART would be my choice over the OQO - it is a clamshell
design.
The FLYBOOK is just plain awesome.

Nope - haven't picked one up for myself yet. I was looking at them vs.
the usual other candidates if I were to upgrade from my L110.

OQO
Sony U series
Fujitsu P1600 series touchscreens
Panasonic W/Y/R/T series.
Toshiba R200

I haven't yet because it's not that important, esp. with my cell phone
capable of getting my emails through the webmail, and it can do pop/imap
+ Google Maps Mini + Opera Mini. So it's almost like my phone has
replaced my Libretto to a degree for a portable 'something' that let's
me jump online and get emails.

But I do use myLibretto for longer letters, archiving emails, backing up
my digital camera photos to CD, etc., so it's still very useful for that
on trips.

It's just that nothiing yet has quite what I'm looking for - compact +
CD/DVD burner + lightweight + touchscreen + decent price.

The Sony/Fujitsu 2-3lbs come close, but at their usual $1500-$2000
starting price, I'm not really itching to trade up for that ---- esp.
when new 15"
widescreen notebooks from Acer go on sale at microcenter.com (earlier
this
year) for only $199 USD.

It's almost like what in the world are the makers thinking?!? They give
you less of a notebook (smaller screen, smaller HD, parts, slower CPU,
etc), but then charge 10x more! (eg. $199 Acer vs. $2000 Sony T series)

----

I think in this sense, I'm just waiting for the recent Libretto models
to drop to the ~$500 level before I migrate.... Otherwise, I'd rather
spend the $1000+ difference on a real 17" gaming notebook with GeForce
7900+ series graphics card =P and be able to get some serious video
editing and gaming done for the price.

But here's the other thing -- Toshiba simply built the L110 so well that
over the years I've owned it, it simply works! Works well, no serious
problems, run well, and still does the job well! =) Guess they built a
tank....

The OQO's are tempting -- they're the only ones that'll fit a large
shirt pocket, and are realistically the only 1lbs portable + keyboard
portables that can be had easily. They're selling for $1000 on ebay
now, so hopefully in a year, they'll have depreciated to about the $500
level. Touch-screen is a bonus, too!
