When you add words you give people more handle and reason to nitpick on words and the words then come in the way of the actual subject matter. I would recommend reading Wiio's laws (I may have done this before): http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/wiio.html especially: 2) If a message can be interpreted in several ways, it will be interpreted in a manner that maximizes the damage 4) The more we communicate, the worse communication succeeds ok, taking cue from that, back to the subject: I'm pretty much with Pete's view on this: there is a reason why printed matter has set, rather short column widths and this should be set by the page designer. I also like the 'good first impression' approach logic.
