This is a sourceforge limitation [1]. As per the previous link, SourceForge provides git http access with their new 2.0 interface, but we're using 1.0, and I'm not sure we want to switch to 2.0 any time soon, as it doesn't look very mature. Last time I checked, I found that the "gitweb" interface for 2.0 (which isn't gitweb - I think they have their own unified implementation for CVS, SVN and git called "commit browser") made a lot of information such as timestamps or full commitdiffs a lot more difficult to access, as the UI has been very dumbed down... Now, since we are going to setup a gerrit review setup on a dedicated server that we control, we can probably setup a gitweb mirror there as well, with http access. I have created issue #28 [2] for this, though it'll probably be a while before we can look into it.
