Uh, we *are* talking about

    TEXMF="{$(pwd)/share/lilypond/<version>, $(kpsexpand \$TEXMF)}"

ie,

   <build-dir>/share/lilypond/<version>

that's created by

   make builddir-setup

right?  It's supposed to replace everyone's custom setup like:

and fix this once and for all.  (But to do that, it should be bugfree,
