I tried that.
It searches in $DATADIR/dvips whereas we only have the file located in $DATADIR/ps and $DATADIR/tex. Hence the problem can be solved by adding a symlink from ps to dvips.

I really don't understand much about theese things - so I don't know whether this behaviour is rational - i.e. whether the problem is in the lily setup or somewhere else.
