The problem is that spacing/padding is often — and, to my eye, unpredictably — a nightmare, depending on which context the Bar_number_engraver is included in. If there was a way to guarantee a given padding above a system, I wouldn’t have been driven to such lengths of coding desperation… ;) — Kieren
