I have always used Gimp to convert music PDFs to EPS, whether the PDF was generated by Lilypond (via Frescobaldi) or by gabc. Here is a link to a document I wrote several years ago detailing how to do that: http://lakewoodsound.com/misc/pdf2eps-gimp.pdf
