For chord charts a barline is wanted at the start of each line of music - \bar "|" is, of course ignored in this position. Can anyone suggest how to force printing a barline here (after the time signature, if any).
Incidentally, the documentation is slightly misleading on this point: http://www.lilypond.org/doc/v2.18/Documentation/notation/bars#index-bar-lines says "This and other special bar lines may be inserted manually at any point."
