I agree that it’s a clever solution… *and* that it’s a shame it’s necessary. In particular, this solution introduces a non-content “voice” in order to solve a presentation problem — yuck (as a requirement, not as a solution!). Here’s hoping something like merge-rests-on-positioning gets rolled into the distro soon.
