Apparently, some ISP's which have until now connected using the cable
infrastructure 'directly' to the Internet are now switching to the use
of VPN, as is the case with ADSL. It's all kind of sudden, i.e., in
about 2 weeks time it will no longer be possible to connect as we (those
of us connected through cable, that is) do now.
I was wondering whether anyone knows the exact technical details of this
VPN-over-cables scheme, in the sense of whether it's possible to use the
hacked pptp client used for ADSL for this one also, whether the provider
codes are the same, whether there are any special MTU/MRU settings, and
where one cat get server addresses.
Actually, I heard a rumor of the VPN type being different than with
ADSL: LT2P instead of PPTP. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
