howdy, all!
hope some linarters have experience with this and can make
suggestions. apparently, there's a video4linux mailing list at:
http://odin.appliedtheory.com/video4linux/
to which i would write, but the server's down at the moment.
anyway, there are a couple of people here who want a machine to use to
convert the videotapes of their grandchildren to cd. they want to
capture the tapes to disk, then do simple edits on them (adding some
text, recording a voice track to say things like "this is joey playing
on the swingset", adjusting contrast in some places and reducing the
wind noise in others) and burn the resulting avi's to cd.
they'd like to do everything under linux if possible, but if necessary
are willing to resign themselves to dual-booting nt.
so, i'm wondering: are there any good video editors (free or
commercial) which run natively on linux? if not, are there any
windows editors (like adobe premiere) that run under wine?
a few things i've found:
1. a general video for linux resources page at:
http://www.exploits.org/v4l/
which leads to lots of grabbers, but no editors.
2. an attempt at:
http://millennium.diads.com/moxy/
to build a gpl'ed video editor, but it's only in the beginning
stages.
3. here's the most interesting bit:
http://linuxmedialabs.com/
they're making a capture board specifically for linux, with gpl'ed
drivers and open specifications. they say it can be used for "high
end home and semi-professional video editing", but don't give any
idea what software is used for doing this.
any suggestions welcomed. thanks!
