console screenshots

Anyone know how to get a screenshot in the console? Something similar to
the "import" used in X? You can grab the _text_ on the screen with:
cat > /dev/vsca[1] > file
But how can you make a screenshot of a graphical program that's running, or
make a screenshot of the console text displayed in the current console font?
