As you said: the best work never goes past family and freinds. Quality work
should pay the bills if it is that: quality work. Most of the time it does
not.

A lot of initiatives flourish for a while where people can really do what
they want to do, but they always come to an end. They become the latest hype
at best. But most of the time the lights go out because of inner conflicts
or because people just don't care anymore. Sometimes it takes a month
sometimes a year, but 99,99% of the initiatives where artists come together
to work on a really nice idea never become more than just that: an idea.

Same goes for revolutions;-) Though in some cases there is also a thing
called violence that brings it down:-(

I don't know what makes a good initiative. I'm still willing to find out.
I've seen a few comming and going. I hope the thing I'm working on right now
will be a good one.

My 2 cents...
Work-for-hire to heat your home and feed the kids so to speak, but realize
that your best work may never be seen or heard past your friends/family.
Work-for-hire is usually trendy, boiled down, lowest common denominator to
sell or push on the most people as possible, like pop music and videos.
I guess it sucks, since "quality" art(s) never pays the bills.
