Hi, In case it wasn't already mentioned, there are many groups that collect fancy dress for high schoolers in cities and towns with more lower income residents.
As you said, Savers is not a charity, thought they donate some money. There are other "thrift" stores that are not charities, though most are charities--best to ask. Although they may accept all clothing donations, some charity shops cannot handle business clothes or fancy clothes (not enough demand for them and they take up too much space). These store may have to pass them on. Dress for Success is more work clothes related, I think. See below for some fancy dress ideas. I just did 2 quick searches: Searched Marlborough: The Metrowest Princess Boutique, run by the GFWC Marlborough Junior Woman's Club, collects and distributes prom dresses to high school students in need in the Marlborough area. They accept donations of gently used or new prom dresses, shoes, jewelry, and purses. Donations can be dropped off at various locations, including the Lost Shoe Brewing and Roasting Company. Students can also request appointments to shop for dresses at the boutique's website. Searched Worcester: Several organizations in and around Worcester, MA, accept prom dress donations to help students in need. The Fairy Prom Mother is an organization that collects and distributes prom dresses, shoes, and accessories to local high school girls. The Prom Closet at The Barton Center also provides free prom dresses, shoes, purses, and jewelry to girls in Central MA, Northern CT, and RI. Additionally, Anton's Cleaners runs the Belle of the Ball program, which collects and cleans prom gowns for students in need, with drop-off locations at various businesses including Carbonneau Bridal & Formalwear in Worcester and The UPS Store in Worcester and Auburn. You can also bring clothes to the Goodwill trailer in Concord, Lexington etc. Thanks, Jo On Monday, August 11, 2025 at 10:45:08 PM EDT, Sara Mattes <[email protected]> wrote: Debra,Anne Mostue just did a drive for a group in Boston.I am not sure if it was “Dress for Success”.I have copied her here-perhaps you 2 can connect and take it from there? I don't like the idea of just giving the clothes to Savers because they are for profit. Any recommendations for better ways to give clothes away that will benefit lower income people only?
