mengadakan pertemuan ilmiah mengenai Pengelolaan Hutan Gambut di Tropika.
Simposium direncanakan akan dilaksanakan di Hotel Lembah Hijau, Ciloto Jawa
Barat, pada 22-24 Nopember 1999. Dalam Pemberitaan berikut disebutkan

General Information:
Tropical peatland is one of the seriously endangered ecosystems on the
earth, which currently is facing serious consequence of climate and
developmental perturbation. The needs for better management and sustainable
development mandate detailed study of the ecosystems from many aspects.
The JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)-LIPI (Indonesian
Institute of Sciences) Core University Programme entitled "Environmental
Management of Tropical Wetland Ecosystem in Southeast Asia" (1997-2006) was
established in 1997 for filling up the needs.
The aim of the present symposium is to discuss results of the studies
conducted during the first three years period under the program, and also
to gather and exchange any other information related to tropical peatland
ecosystems, resulted from other studies.
The selected topics in this symposium will be:
1. Ecosystem function of wetland forests
2. Sustainability of ecological system of bio-production
3. River and peatland technology
4. Function of aquatic ecosystems
5. Social and economic dimensions of tropical wetlands
Papers dealing with any aspects of the above topics are welcome. Papers
will be placed in either oral session or poster presentation based
primarily on the authors' preferences and finally on the organising
committee's decision.
The symposium will be held at Lembah Hijau Hotel, Cisarua-Bogor, from
Monday 22nd to Tuesday 23rd November 1999. Since it is expected that most
participants outside Cisarua-Bogor area will arrive on Sunday 21st
November,
a bus transportation will be arranged for symposium attendees from Jakarta
Airport to Safari Garden Hotel on that day. The details for transportation
and accommodation will be sent to all registered attendees.
After the symposium, a scientific excursion will be made to sites in
Central Kalimantan for the members of JSPS-LIPI Core University Programme.

abstract following the format attached to this circular. Please indicate
your preference for your presentation, oral or poster. The abstract should
be sent together with the registration form. The organizing committee may
ask the authors to change from oral presentation to poster or vice versa.
Deadline for receipt of registration form and abstracts is 10 September 1999.
Language:
The official language for the symposium will be English.
Accommodation:
The rooms at Lembah Hijau Hotel will be available at reasonable rates.
Participants are asked to fill out the dates of arrival and departure in
the registration form.
