: Faith Doherty Interview show
"HARDTALK" with Tim Sebastian on BBC World
Dear Friends,
EIA and Telapak Indonesia have
continued the campaign to stop illegal logging in Tanjung Puting National
Park and to break down the corrupt infrastructure that has allowed such open
abuse. As you know, we have named the timber baron Abdul Rasyid and his
company Tanjung Lingga as a kingpin in this corruption.
As part of the
campaign EIA is co-operating with a number of international broadcasters and
media to push home the message. The BBC's hard-hitting interview show
"HARDTALK" with Tim Sebastian shown on BBC World has completed a
show with EIA investigator and campaigner Faith Doherty, who with Ruwi from
Telapak, was savagely beaten and kidnapped by executives of Tanjung Lingga in
January. The interview focuses on the issues relating to the illegal logging
of Tanjung Puting.
It is currently scheduled to be shown on Friday 12th
May 2000. It is possible that this date may change depending on other news
events.
Please try to see this and ask as many questions of the
Government of Indonesia as possible. Illegal logging continues in Tanjung
Puting National Park and Abdul Rasyid is, so far, proving to be untouchable.
He still sits as a member of the MPR (upper house in Parliament).
All
the best to you all.
