Which Filter?   - some are known to be unsupported in Director -
There is a list of known bad within the Filter Support folder within 
Director's Xtras folder.  "Disabled Plug-ins" is the filename on mac.

It's also possible that you have found one that needs to be added to the list
(They weren't all tested & not very recently either)

Also if you are on Mac, it's always a good idea to boost Director's 
partition if you are using PS filters with the Paint window - they 
need memory to do their processing & sometimes Director hasn't got 
enough for them just when they are needing it.
