Well Warren, I already admitted that your posting was "better". That said I don't find my way so "ouch" as you do.
First, I don't know what Nitin wanted to do exactly, I wanted to get him started. I am using *my* method all the time and either I do know exactly what pictures are in what directory (for instances when processing picts taken by a digital camera that are automatically saved in a specific folder) or - if I don't know or if there's another user than me - I am smart enough to prevent "ouches" by adding some more code. Descending all levels of perfectionism when answering to a simple question wasn't my assumption of the purpose of this list. And after all, I already asked you to disregard the posting, so what's the buzz? I can see a user pointing Director to a folder containing several hundred Mb of images, then whining over (1) how long it takes, and (2) the fact the system hangs up and finally dies. There are levels of perfectionism into which you can descend when doing batch importing; for instance you can check for types, free memory etc. -- actually I've got some code that handles this sort of thing in Part 4 of my book -- but simply assuming the end user knows enough to point your program to a folder full of legitimate pictures, and has the storage necessary to suck 'em all in the Cast, is probably not a safe assumption to make. Though I like the idea of linking to a dummy member and getting member.image instead.
