What I would probably do is compose the image in a non-visible MIAW 
and then either display the MIAW or get its image. That way I could 
tweak the display directly in author to make sure it was going the 
way I wanted it to, without having to worry overmuch about dealing 
with iLingo.

Of course that's not an option for Shockwave.

To learn the ins and outs of iLingo you could do worse than reading 
_Director Shockwave Studio Developer's Guide_ by James Newton.
