It means World 3D. You´ll find many examples of this at www.directordev.com
It was for Web 3D - did they use the term World 3D in directordev?
I know you should know, but are you sure? For a while the extension s3d was used, until they found out that someone else had it, that only really left w, although I suppose it could have been d3d.
